Meron Gallery in Cluj-Napoca opens “The Dissonant Edge”, a solo exhibition by artist Mirel Vieru, on Thursday, August 27, at 6:30 PM. The exhibition is curated by Lorelai Mursa.

“In Mirel Vieru’s practice, the pictorial horizon does not function as a space of formal harmony. Rather, it becomes a territory for a rigorous deconstruction of the surface. The concept of a ‘geometry of the incomplete’ shifts the center of gravity of the work from aesthetic linearity toward the structural dissonance of the edge.

Heterogeneous layers of oil, watercolor, pencil, and digital print on textile support call into question the very boundary between memory and presence, between the singular gesture and technical reproduction. Subsequent cuts and stitches operate as indices of a latent, unspoken structure that organizes the work from within. The composition emerges through a calculated process of recontextualization, generating an unstable topology in which time and space overlap. Beyond the surface of a prefigured structural consensus, abstract form embraces dissonance as an organizing principle.

In this context, the edge becomes one of the most important sites of the work. An architecture of rupture takes shape, in which the isolated fragment no longer aspires toward unity or totality. Within its folds, it carries the potential of the infinite.” (Excerpt from the curatorial text.)

Mirel Vieru (b. 1980) graduated from the University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca in 2004, specializing in painting. In 2006, he pursued master’s studies on a scholarship at the Athens School of Fine Arts. He is part of the generation of artists associated with the Cluj School.

The exhibition can be visited until October 7, 2026. Admission is free.
