MV sci-art center presents the group exhibition INTERSPACE/INTERSPAȚIU, curated by Mirela Stoeac-Vlăduți.
“INTERSPATIU approaches the concept of art as a process subject to successive alterations in the space-time relationship, as well as the finite-infinite, provisional-perpetual duality. The five artists, Mihai Toth, Mirela Cerbu, Sânziana Gheorghe, Ana Maria Szollosi, and Onesim, interacted within the “Emergent co-lab” project with artists, scientists, curators, and architects, and the basis of these meetings was dialogue, the exchange of ideas, the experiment. The experiment is what underpinned the entire course of this project, which took shape around the epistemological transfer between professionals from different areas, and also defines the INTERSPATIU exhibition.
Uncertainty becomes the focal point in the juxtaposition of the five artistic visions. In quantum physics, Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle suggests that, at a fundamental level, particles do not have precise positions and velocities but rather a series of probabilities. This idea is reflected in the artists’ works, where forms and structures are not fixed but fluctuate, constantly transforming in response to new perspectives and interpretations. Each of the participating artists explores uncertainty in a unique way, bringing a distinct perspective to the concept. From dreamlike images, where the boundaries between reality and imagination are blurred, as in the case of Sânziana Gheorghe, to the abstract that reflects the complexity and ambiguity of the modern world, where forms dissolve and reconfigure in a continuous flow, in the situation of the in-situ installation made by Mihai Toth, the exhibition becomes a series of “superpositions” (term from science – see Schrödinger’s equation).
This approach not only highlights the beauty and fragility of the present moment but also emphasizes the idea that the interpretation of art is subjective and fluid. The viewer is invited to bring their own experiences and emotions to the work, thus generating a unique and personal interaction with each work.
Through this juxtaposition, the exhibition becomes a microcosm of uncertainty, where each element contributes to a larger and more complex whole. Artists do not provide definitive answers but open windows to new ways of understanding and experiencing reality. In this way, uncertainty is no longer seen as an obstacle but as a source of inspiration and creativity, a force that pushes the boundaries of knowledge and artistic expression.
A sequence of artistic positions that we can look at as an infinite number of parallel universes provides another framework for interpretation. The works presented can be perceived as portals to these alternate universes, each work representing a possible reality, a different version of a moment, a thought or an emotion. This approach resonates with the idea of the finite-infinite duality, where each work of art is both complete and perpetually evolving, reflecting a vast and limitless universe of possibilities.
The artistic process thus becomes a framework for experimentation, where observation and interaction determine the work’s final form. Every interaction of the public with works of art can be seen as a ‘collapse of the wave function’, a moment when the infinite potentials of the work become a specific and tangible reality.”
