CAMERA launched an Open Call for the second issue of Grupaj magazine. The curator of this edition is the photographer Mihai Șovăială, and his proposed theme is Building extensions.
The proposed theme questions extensions in architecture. The modification of living space, whether interior or exterior, is a direct reaction to our needs and inherently a response to the political, economic and cultural situation that makes these changes possible.
From the simple extension of a balcony, the renovation of a facade or the personalization of public spaces, all are decisions that reflect the relationship between the built space and people’s needs.
Even if the inhabitants of urban centers are limited in terms of their ability and perspective to understand a complex system such as that of a city, they are able to find solutions to global challenges, thus responding punctually to their specific needs.
The ability to adapt and modify built spaces is a natural human response and has valuable potential to extend architecture both spatially and functionally.
How do these transformations affect our current lives? Is there a limit to these additions, which once exceeded can become invasive? Can we perceive these changes as a beauty of adaptation or a beauty of expansion?
In this framework, the theme of the second edition will explore new means and tools that will contribute to building the perception of these spaces through photography.
Those interested in participating must send a project of 8-10 photos (2400px wide side, 72dpi), a concept (200 words maximum) and a short bio (200 words maximum) to office@cameracluj.com.
