KINEMA IKON: The Great Escape / kimæra and other creatures

The opening of the exhibition KINEMA IKON: The Great Escape / kimæra and Other Creatures, curated by Călin Man, took place at the National Technical Museum “Prof. Eng. Dimitrie Leonida”.

Comprised of 9 works by 12 artists over two years, kimæra is a hybrid body, an interactive digital meta-installation, where each work/module is functional as a part and a whole. The installation combines traditional media with digital media (“new media”), public city space with loT (internet of things), augmented reality, 3D printing, sound and image generated by Al, mobile applications, NFT, etc., coordinated by a computer central, each of the nine modules having an input and an output that allows the works to interact with each other.

kimæra – how it works:
each module has an input and an output; when the output is not connected to the central unit, the module is controlled by the physical interaction of people (person) with the module; when the modules are connected to the central unit, through it, they will interact both with each other and with users as follows:

  • besides the intrinsic effect produced by the physical presence of the observer, the outputs [photos (jpeg, png, .., audio files, ASCII)] – are converted into a token, the result of (inter)actions with users.
  • the token, transferred/sent to the central unit/cloud, is decrypted and sent to the module selected by the user, influencing the respective module(s).
  • the action of associating inputs and outputs can be random if there is no interaction with the system (neither physically nor through the central unit).

Modules made by: Alex Halka / gH / reVoltaire / Bogdanator / Floriama Cândea / Marina Oprea / loana Marșic / Thea Lazăr / Adrian Ganea / Flaviu Rogojan / Suzana Dan / Dragos Dogioiu / modules and main computer programming: Mihai Sava / AR App: DARV, software development: Florian Weinrich / green screen application: lie Ciotir /

Along with the kimæra, three other kinema ikon creatures will be present, curated by reVoltaire / gH / Bogdanator.

An event organized by SATELIT – a project of the MATKA Association, carried out in partnership with the “Dimitrie Leonida” National Technical Museum in Bucharest, which supports young, emerging, and multidisciplinary initiatives on the contemporary art scene in Romania, coordinated by Mihaela Cîrjan, Lea Rasovszky and Georgia Tidorescu.
