MNAC FALL Opening 2023

Thursday, November 2, took place the official opening of the new exhibition season of the National Museum of Contemporary Art and the launch of the MNAC 20BIS anniversary year, in which it will celebrate, through monthly events, the 20th anniversary of the Museum’s existence in its headquarters in the Palace of Parliament.

The new season continues the MNAC’s approach to recover the emblematic personalities of the recent history of the visual arts in Romania, to support the young generations of artists, to expose the representatives of cultural minorities who today contribute to the diversity of the artistic scene, but also to present foreign artists to the Romanian public appreciated and known internationally.

On the ground floor, visitors are greeted by the Alma Redlinger retrospective exhibition, Loss of Innocence, curated by Călin Dan. The emblematic Marble Hall on the Ground Floor hosts the Patrimoniu installation by Eugen Raportoru, made in partnership with Roma Education Fund Romania.

On the first floor, the Puls 21 exhibition brings together a selection of the latest works of art entered into the museum’s Collection through the 2020 and 2022 public procurement sessions.

On the second floor, the multi-disciplinary Leviathan project continues in the collection’s bowels, combining art storage with temporary exhibition areas and spaces dedicated to educational activities and mediation programs.

The Chronicles of Future Superheroes exhibition was inaugurated on the third floor, curated by Anca Mihulet. The exhibition presents an international selection of 14 artists from Korea, Italy / Great Britain, France, Croatia, Bulgaria, Hungary, and, of course, Romania: Bek Hyunjin (KR), Adriana Chiruta (RO), Baptiste Debombourg (FR), Kim Heecheon (KR), Fabio Lattanzi Antinori (UK), Lee Saem (KR), Lawrence Lek (UK), Dalibor Martinis (HR), Adina Mocanu (RO), Alexandra Pâzgu (RO), Maria Pop Timaru (RO), Larisa Sitar (RO), Dimitar Solakov (BG), Stardust Architects (RO).
