SAT – Smallest Art Fair in Town Returns with Its Fourth Edition

From May 14–17, 2026, SAT – Smallest Art Fair in Town returns with its fourth edition, held under the title A Place of Contemplation. Conceived as an alternative contemporary art fair format, SAT proposes this year a reflection on contemplation, understood not as a suspension of the world, but as a territory of attention and active presence.

The 2026 edition unfolds in a diptych format across two venues in central Bucharest, while also marking the project’s expansion through the introduction of a new section dedicated to emerging artists.

Salon de Papier – Works on Paper and Spaces of Reflection

The first section takes place at Salon de Papier, a space that preserves its established identity and remains dedicated exclusively to works on paper. In this context, drawing, collage, and graphic intervention become forms of mapping an already sedimented inner space — a place of contemplation that has acquired form and visibility.

This edition brings together eight of the most important galleries on the Romanian contemporary art scene. Alongside returning participants — GAEP, Mobius, Sector 1, and Suprainfinit — this year welcomes Anca Poterașu, Galeria Posibilă, and Galeria Ivan, further strengthening the project’s collaborative direction.

Mobius – A Platform for Emerging Artists

The second component of the edition takes place at Mobius and introduces, for the first time, a section dedicated exclusively to emerging artists, open to all media.

Conceived as a territory in formation, this extension of SAT aims to provide visibility for a new generation of artists for whom access to the traditional infrastructure of the art market often remains limited. At the same time, the initiative supports galleries and independent spaces that promote emerging practices, offering them a platform for exposure and dialogue.

An Alternative Art Fair Model

Following previous editions that brought together galleries from Bucharest, Timișoara, Chișinău, and Berlin, SAT continues to position itself as an alternative art fair model: without separate booths, without direct competition, and with an emphasis on collaboration, proximity, and authentic exchange between artists, galleries, and the public.

Through this approach, the project aligns itself with international initiatives such as Basel Social Club, Minor Attractions, and Esther, all of which rethink the traditional art fair format and privilege community engagement and cultural dialogue.

Admission is free.
