Open Doors: Baicului Studios

On Saturday, June 20, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Baicului Studios will host the second edition of its Open Studios event. The occasion marks an important milestone in the consolidation of the independent artistic community based at Baicului Studios.

Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the working spaces of the participating artists: Liviu Mihai, Misha Diaconu, Mihail Coșulețu, Laura Partin, Evghenia Gritsku, and Mihail Botnari.

Liviu Mihai (b. 1980, Romania) is a contemporary artist based in Bucharest. He graduated from the National University of Arts in Bucharest in 2004, where he developed a distinctive visual language situated between figurative and abstract expression. Through painting and installation, Mihai explores the fluid boundary between reality and dream, creating layered compositions in which memory, perception, and emotion intersect. His work invites viewers into an ambiguous narrative universe where meaning remains open and constantly evolving. He has exhibited extensively in Romania and abroad. Notable solo exhibitions include A Folded Reality (2025) at the National Museum of the Romanian Peasant in Bucharest and Lost Paradise at Mogoșoaia Palace. His work has also been presented at international events such as The Other Art Fair in London and Art Monaco, alongside numerous group exhibitions in cities including London, Salzburg, and Bucharest. He was also featured in Saatchi Gallery’s Invest in Art edition.

Misha Diaconu (b. 1981, Galați) is a sculptor and graduate of the National University of Arts in Bucharest, Faculty of Arts and Design, where she completed her studies in the Metal Department in 2004. She maintains an active artistic practice through national and international projects, numerous group exhibitions, symposia, and international residencies. Her work is grounded in experimentation, research, and introspection, taking shape through seemingly fragile, dynamic, and gestural forms that approach the threshold of abstraction.

Mihail Coșulețu is an artist and Creative Director at Humanitas Publishing House. He lives and works in Bucharest. He studied painting under Alexandru Chira at the National University of Arts in Bucharest, earning his Master’s degree in 2007 and Bachelor’s degree in 2005.

Laura Partin (b. 1986, Iași) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Bucharest whose work combines drawing, video, and installation. Her practice, centered on contemporary drawing, explores environmental fragility, human vulnerability, and various forms of social and gender invisibility. With academic training in graphic arts and art theory in Iași, a fellowship at the Romanian Cultural Institute in Venice, and a PhD in Fine Arts from Paris 8 University, Partin combines poetic imagery with conceptual inquiry. Her recent series, including Mar Adentro and the installation Glow in the Dark, further investigate her interest in the climate crisis and the reconfiguration of women’s representation in art history. Throughout her work, she creates a dialogue between intimacy and collectivity, personal memory and shared history. Her art reveals the subtle interdependence between people and their social, emotional, and ecological environments, transforming drawing and installation into tools of remembrance, resilience, and renewal.

Evghenia Gritsku was born and raised in Ukraine in a Romanian family, embodying cultural traits characteristic of both Ukrainians and Romanians. In 2015, she graduated from the National University of Arts in Bucharest with a Master’s degree in Painting. In 2021, she became a recipient of the Gaude Polonia scholarship program, during which she presented the exhibition Transition while in residence in Lublin. Since then, she has been living in Wrocław. In 2023, she began doctoral studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław. Her artistic practice focuses on migration, identity, post-traumatic experience, and other socially significant themes.

Mihail Botnari investigates the intersection of technology, psychology, and materiality. By combining natural and synthetic elements within his sculptural practice, he highlights the tension between organic and artificial forms. A PhD candidate at the National University of Arts in Bucharest, his academic research, together with studies undertaken in Rome and Carrara, complements his innovative artistic approach.

Venue: Dr. Kocher Factory Building, 82 Baicului Street, Bucharest.

Admission is free throughout the event.
