Closing event | Petru Lucaci.“Sortir du noir” at GLORIÆ Art Gallery

On Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at 6 PM, at GLORIÆ Art Gallery in Craiova will take place the closing event of the solo exhibition by artist Petru Lucaci, “Sortir du noir”, in the presence of the artist and the curator, Ruxandra Demetrescu.

On the occasion of the closing, the exhibition catalog will also be launched, featuring a graphic concept signed by Serioja Bocsok. The publication includes reproductions of the exhibited works, alongside the critical text by curator Ruxandra Demetrescu.

The closing event on April 29 represents the final opportunity to explore this retrospective of the “Clarobscur” series and recent experiments. Described by the artist as a means of “(re)defining artistically an uncertain world,” the chiaroscuro in the exhibited works invites reflection on human vulnerability in the face of the excesses of contemporary society.

In the curator’s vision, the exhibition journey symbolically follows a path from black to color—an “exit from black” that is not only formal but also spiritual. This transition is marked by the shift from monumental polyptychs dominated by absolute black to new canvases in which color and light emerge from matter, defining both a new relationship between the visual and the tactile, and a new chapter in Petru Lucaci’s artistic practice.

Petru Lucaci (b. 1956, Arad) is a visual artist, PhD professor at the National University of Arts Bucharest, curator, and a central figure in Romania’s cultural management scene. Since 2010, he has served as President of the Union of Visual Artists of Romania and Director of Arta Magazine. He earned a PhD in Visual Arts in 2006 with the thesis “On Black.” His exhibition activity includes participation in over 250 group exhibitions in Romania and abroad, as well as more than 45 solo exhibitions. His artistic practice encompasses painting, graphics, photography, object/installation, happening, and new media.
