Cărturești Carusel hosts the exhibition of the artist Lucia Ghegu, “The Laws of Thermodynamics”, curated by Ioana Iuna Șerban, an event organized by /SAC in partnership with Cărturești.
“There are so many laws by which the situations we find ourselves in can be described. Official legal laws, unwritten moral laws, laws of relationships established by those between whom the relationship is created, laws of groups, up to metaphorically formulated laws related to the plane of emotions or the plane of the paths we choose. Are we subject to these laws – in the sense that we are subordinated to them – or do we find ourselves in a relationship of equality or even superiority to them when we choose to apply or evade them? Even combative/rebellious/fickle spirits, no matter how much they try to escape from the laws, probably find themselves forced to make their own set of laws to explain the incidence of some phenomena, the repetition of some states.
In her works, Lucia Ghegu appeals to phenomena and the fluctuation of states through the fluctuation of forms. In an apparently impassive, impersonal way, mechanized in a serene product of some micro-systems placed between hieroglyphs, heraldic signs and choreographic indications given by a society that has reached perfection. This disguise in instruction actually encrypts the becomings, the inner tumult against depersonalization, the bodily customs, the relationships that come with borders and exchanges that always leave a residue. It is, in essence, a personal story that Lucia Ghegu places between the scale of subjective experience and the formal scale of detachment – and the oscillation between the two poles is meant to restore the path of states.
In her case, the drawing (which seems to be experiencing a revival in current visual art) is not a prop of intimacy but is geared as a technical drawing derived from a design that operates with a clearly delimited language that varies thoroughly. The 3D objects resulting from the drawing come to compensate and embody a state, a necessity.” Ioana Iuna Șerban, exhibition curator (excerpt from the curatorial text)
The exhibition is open until September 22, according to the Cărturești Carusel schedule. Entrance is free.
