Friday, October 14, at the Camera K’ARTE in Târgu Mureș, opens the solo exhibition of the artist Ada Muntean, entitled “Fragments from a Life I don’t Remember”.
Ada Muntean, a graduate of the University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca, is an internationally active artist. Her artistic discourse is built around the experiences and challenges of the contemporary man using multiple mediums and forms of representation, from painting to drawing, photography, and video.
In the vision of the artist Ada Muntean the exhibition “Fragments from a Life I don’t Remember” is “a reflection on the sum of important happenings that come to shape us as humans and the importance of each fragment of memory that can shake our present, questioning temporal cyclicalities, identity characteristics and last but not least the relativity of the future.”
The curatorial concept “explores the ambiguity and fluid character that the identity of the contemporary man acquires, influenced by several main factors, namely: the genetic, temporal and social one.”
Moments in the creative process of the artist are revealed in the curatorial text: “My experiments are aimed at seeking the understanding of individual identity starting from the past, from history, from the personal search around family photography, of the latent universe behind the temporal route between the image and the palpable real. Also, in the perception and use of the image as a visual and conceptual tool, a transition from the document is made – to personal photography made like a cinematic frame, which appeals to a subjective personal memory – related to introspection and intimacy. “Fragments from a Life I don’t Remember” becomes at the same time irony and an interrogation of the perception of life as a dream, in an act of rational and emotional detachment on past events, about identity in continuous change.
The project explores “closets” of my psyche that constitute themselves as fragments of memories or impressions of memories that come like an unexpected insertion, of a smash cut in the present to question me in front of the decisions I have made, the experiences I have lived, mentally projecting a possible future.
The formal and conceptual understanding of the image is achieved through its construction, deconstruction, and formal distortion, looking for meanings behind the photographic frame. Thus, the future cannot be projected without an understanding of the present filtered through the premises built by the past.” (Ada Muntean, artist-curator)
The opening will take place starting at 7 p.m. in the K’ARTE Room (2 G. Enescu Street, Târgu Mureș).
