On view until September 12, /SAC @ MINCU GALLERY in Bucharest presents “Offside. Plans, Goals and Points”, an international group exhibition curated by Alex Radu and the second chapter of the curatorial programme “Rhythmic Stress.”
Bringing together the works of 35 artists, the exhibition takes the symbolic context of competitive sport as its point of departure to reflect on the relationship between the individual and the collective, exploring resonance, collaboration, and the mechanisms through which shared rhythms and common rules are constructed. While the first chapter of the programme examined rhythmic stress through the lens of individual experience and the body’s breathing in the world, “Offside. Plans, Goals and Points” shifts the focus toward group dynamics and collective effort.
In his curatorial text, Alex Radu proposes team sports as a metaphor for collaborative processes, describing them as a “living architecture” in which rules generate flows, choreographies, and visible and invisible working geometries. Drawing on Donna Haraway’s concept of sym-poiesis, the exhibition considers collective action as a process of “making-with,” where the outcome belongs not to any single individual but to the whole.
The exhibition examines competitiveness beyond the logic of polarization and aggression, focusing instead on how difference, co-presence, and plurality can generate forms of collaboration and new ways of understanding shared space. The title, Offside, becomes a metaphor for a moment of rhythmic tension—an error of positioning that interrupts the flow and prompts a reconfiguration of relationships within the group.
Positioned at the intersection of visual art, film, architecture, and performance, the exhibition reflects on how bodies, movement, and interaction produce and transform common space, proposing the exhibition itself as a site of representation, dialogue, and social choreography.
