“In the Blink of an Ear”| Art Sound Exhibition at Știrbei47

Știrbei 47 presents the exhibition “In the Blink of an Ear” the event bringing to the public the projects of eleven young artists.

Starting from the idea of “Sound Art”, the artists set out to explore sound, especially the process behind its formation. “Sound is not just an acoustic wave but incorporates various ranges of experiences,” points out Fatima El Kosht, when creating the text of the exhibition, this statement illustrates the experimental character of the works.

The works were conceived in a creative workshop in which the team participated between November 21 and 25, 2022. The workshop encouraged experimentation with sound and different devices to enhance the recorded frequencies.

Alexandra Spinei (‘Electromagnetic box’), Alexandru Zaharencu (‘Étude no.1’), Ana Conțu (‘InterelectriCITY’), Anca Olteanu (‘Now you’re here’), Daria Nedelcu (‘Laughter piece’), Diana Oana (‘InterelectriCITY’), Emma Diaconiță (‘Fragmented buzz’), Ioana Popescu (‘B 612’), Justin Barbu (‘InterelectriCITY’), Leo Rocha (‘The magnetism between us’, ‘I write, you listen’ ) and Meri Stroe (‘Impro for two’) created both individually and in groups, a number of ten works of the type ” sound art”, where sound is the main medium through which an artistic result is produced, through the auditory channel.

Thus, through numerous installations, made by artists with the help of speakers, a microphone, or a transducer, the visitor has an interactive experience, which is based on an experiment, achievable thanks to the indications that accompany some of the exhibited works.

“The magnetism between us”, the project created by Leo Rocha, is based on the co-participation and interaction between two people. They sit on either side of a table, under which there is a pendulum and a radiator, which must be turned on. Participants are then invited to place their hands on the table, which will allow them to feel the electromagnetism emitted by the radiator, picked up by a sensor, and then transmitted to the table through the parts of a speaker. The sensor is then removed and placed on the table so that it pendulates, and following the experiment, visitors are asked to turn off the radiator.

Similarly, the work “I write, you listen” also requires the involvement of two participants, thus: one person will write and the other will receive. On a piece of paper, the writer will conceive what they want, and the other person is tasked with guessing what. The paper, which is attached to a board, is connected to a small box that the participant uses to guess. It is a stimulating auditory and tactile game that tests the ability of concentration and cooperation of those taking part in the experiment.

The exhibition can be until December 3, at Știrbei 47, between 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.

The event was made thanks to the collaboration between the artists and LANDIS & GYR STIFTUNG, the University of Informatics Bucharest, Daria Nedelcu, Andrei Bardezi, Fatima El Kosht and Știrbei 47.
