“Holding Pattern” | Photo exhibition signed by Mihai Șovăială at 2/3 gallery

2/3 gallery presents the exhibition “Holding Pattern” signed by the photographer Mihai Șovăială.

The “Holding Pattern” project originally appeared in the format of an artist publication in 2020.

The title “Holding Pattern” refers to a maneuver used in aviation, designed to delay an aircraft already in flight by keeping it in a specified airspace. The black-and-white photographs taken by Mihai revolve around the airport runway and present a portrait of a waiting landscape imbued with deep geopolitical nuances.

After the completion of the runway in 2014 and several years of stagnation, the Ghimbav-Brașov International Airport will officially open this summer.

The black-and-white photographs depict the arid landscape of the first airport built in post-communist Romania, and the exhibition proposes revisiting the works in a different context to mark the end of the planning and construction period.

The works presented in the exhibition can be bought from the 2/3 gallery.

Mihai ȘOVĂIALĂ completed his Meisterschüler studies in 2020 at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst, Leipzig, Germany, under the guidance of Joachim Brohm, after graduating from the Photo-Video department at the National University of Arts in Bucharest, Romania, in 2016.
Since 2013, his work has focused on urban development structures and their peripheries, questioning the impact of architecture on the context and history of the city. His works are displayed as installations in exhibition contexts or in book format, often independently published.
His works have been exhibited both locally and internationally in museums and galleries such as: Museum of Recent Art, Bucharest; Kunstmuseum Kloster Unser Lieben Frauen, Magdeburg; a&o Kunsthalle, Leipzig; Circulation(s) Festival, Paris; Photogallery Wien, Vienna; Biennial of Contemporary Photography, Iasi; Plan-B Gallery, Cluj; Gaep Gallery, Bucharest; BTV Gallery, Innsbruck; Moebius Gallery.
