Great painters from the Prado Museum – Documentary screenings

The National Art Museum of Romania and the Cervantes Institute in Bucharest invite you to the series of screenings of documentary art films brought together under the title Great painters from the Prado Museum, about important Spanish artists or in connection with Spain, which accompanies the photography exhibition “The Prodigious Decade. The Living Constitution” by Benito Román, open until February 25, 2024, on the ground floor of the Auditorium Hall (Str. Știrbei Vodă no. 1).

The Center for European Hispanic Studies (CEEH) produces the documentaries, collaborating with prestigious institutions such as the Prado Museum, the Auckland Project, and the El Greco Foundation.

Access to the screenings is based on the entry ticket to the exhibition (the ticket price is 20 lei). The documentaries will be able to be viewed in Spanish, with English and Romanian subtitles, according to the following schedule:

Friday, January 19, 2024, 7:00 p.m.: “Rubens, the show of life”
Rubens was an artist of extraordinary talent but also a great scholar and a dedicated diplomat; in the context of the crisis period in which he lived, his work confirmed the values ​​of a world that was gradually disappearing through the magic of the brush and the force of the stories told.

Friday, January 26, 2024, 7:00 p.m.: “Skater, the invention of the landscape.”
This documentary tackles the enigma of a painter whose biography is little known and who, at the beginning of the 16th century, revolutionized the entire art market and the very concept of painting.

Friday, February 2, 2024, 7:00 p.m.: “El Greco, the painter of the invisible.”
The documentary represents a fascinating journey through space and time: from his native Crete, where he painted small icons, to the period when he lived in Toledo, his final residence, where he made gigantic paintings in churches and monasteries, or in Venice and Rome, where his art was influenced by the masters of the Italian Renaissance.

Friday, February 16, 2024, 7:00 p.m.: “Rubens, the show of life”
Friday, February 23, 2024, 7:00 p.m.: “Skater, the invention of the landscape.”
