“The Gift of Sight”. The Variety of Visual Perspectives in a Collective Exhibition in Galați

The exhibition “The Gift of Sight”, hosted by The House of Arts from Galați, brings together recent painting and graphic works of artists Andreea Gabriela Tudor, Raluca Spătaru Iancu, Sorin Scurtulescu, and Ciprian Bodea.
The theme of the exhibition, curated by Alina-Ruxandra Mircea, is the centrality of sight — understood both in the common sense of visual perception and in the more specific sense of attention and discernment — for the act of painting and for the life of the spirit alike. While not a new theme, it is inexhaustible. It renews and diversifies in conjunction with the sensibilities of each of the four artists, offering at the same time a meeting and dialogue space.

The exhibition proposes four different perspectives on nature, four distinct ways of perceiving and interpreting the material reality of the world. For Andreea Gabriela Tudor, nature is a theater of memory, inevitably charged with human presence and the subjective meanings associated with it.
At the opposite end, Raluca Spătaru Iancu’s painting seeks to preserve the spontaneous, immediate feeling in front of the subject, as if the objects of contemplation were encountered for the first time, as if the labor of representation begins, each time, from a zero moment of absolute innocence.

Sorin Scurtulescu’s flowers reveal themselves to the viewer in all their heavenly, lush splendor, whose expression is decisively linked to the nature of the pictorial matter, luminosity, and preciousness.
Inclined toward synthesis, Ciprian Bodea operates a progressive schematization of the “architecture” of iris flowers, extracting out of them a self-contained structure with its own expressive and organizing qualities, situated at the border between descriptive and non-representational.
Each proposal offers the opportunity to expand the realm of experience, a discovery whose experience is marked by the joy of seeing and painting.

Andreea Gabriela Tudor (b. 2001, Brăila), Raluca Spătaru Iancu (b. 1977, Brăila), Sorin Scurtulescu (b. 1979, Timișoara), and Ciprian Bodea (b. 1979, Cugir) are among the most reputable contemporary Romanian artists, authors of numerous exhibitions in museums, galleries, and cultural institutions in Romania and abroad.
Sorin Scurtulescu and Ciprian Bodea are founding members of one of the most relevant and influential artistic groups active on the current visual arts scene: the Noima Group.

“The Gift of Sight” can be visited at Casa Artelor (The House of Arts) on Str. Domnească no. 58 until November 23, 2025, Monday through Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
