“Everything Ends Tomorrow” – Solo Exhibition by Ioan De Moisa at Scemtovici & Benowitz Gallery

At Scemtovici & Benowitz Gallery, visitors can explore the exhibition “Everything Ends Tomorrow”, a solo show by Ioan De Moisa, curated by Gilda Ghinoiu.

“[…] Everything Ends Tomorrow proposes the ‘democratization’ of the apocalypse, defined not through a catastrophic ending, but as a diffuse revelatory process, insinuated within personal micro-histories. De Moisa’s landscapes, populated by small silhouettes rendered in dynamic brushstrokes, function as points of tension and mediation between human transformation and the regeneration of the ecosystem. His characters, overwhelmed by the surrounding nature, dissolve only to be recomposed in the next frame, and so on. The selection unfolds as a sequence of liquefied appearances and disappearances, the painterly process faithfully following this alchemical logic of dissolution, burning under dramatic suns and skies, and the sublimation required for a new emergence, a renewed appearance of humankind in the World.

De Moisa’s silhouettes abandon, like an exuvia, one pictorial geography and transmute into the next. He is an emerging artist who adheres to the principle of constructing coherent landscapes through in situ exploration, plein air painting, and drawing. For this reason, nature in his works remains natural. Born from this itinerant academicism, his spontaneous, flowing, uneven brushstrokes—imagined and rendered in his paintings—generate sonic impressions. In De Moisa’s landscapes, the wind truly blows, clouds gather and disperse, while the human figure remains silent; its subtle reappearances can be read as mantras of its passage through the world.” – Gilda Ghinoiu, curator

Ioan de Moisa (b. 1989, Carei) lives and works in Cluj-Napoca. He graduated from the Painting Department of the University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca (BA 2011, MA 2013). His artistic practice primarily explores the relationship between humans and nature through figurative compositions and symbolically charged landscapes. Geographic forms become metaphors for human interiority, and the landscape transforms into a space of introspection and memory. In recent years, the artist has traveled and lived in Bali and various regions of Africa, experiences that have enriched his visual universe.

His pastel and watercolor drawings, created as a travel journal, coexist with large-scale studio paintings, forming a subtle dialogue of themes and tonalities. Recent solo exhibitions include Gathering at the Beginning of Life (Mind Set Art Center, Taipei, 2024), Petrichor (Cosmic House Gallery, Cluj-Napoca, 2023), and #2 (Unirea Open Studios, Cluj-Napoca, 2022). He has participated in international art fairs such as Positions Art Fair (Berlin, 2025) and Art Taipei (2023–2025). His works have been featured in group exhibitions at Meron Gallery, Rubik Art Space, Quadro Gallery, Scemtovici & Benowitz Gallery, and the Cluj-Napoca Art Museum.

The exhibition “Everything Ends Tomorrow” can be visited until May 11, 2026, at Scemtovici & Benowitz Gallery, from Tuesday to Saturday, between 3:30 PM and 7:30 PM.
