Art Movements Foundation, Scemtovici & Benowitz Gallery, and ALERT Studio opened on Wednesday, October 25, the exhibition “CONTEMPORARY DRAWING IN ROMANIA” – the first edition, curated by Raluca Ilaria Demetrescu.
The exhibition is an invitation to analysis, to an incomplete incursion into the universe of Romanian graphic creation, with the practices of contemporary drawing and emerging trends.
The exhibition includes the works selected by an independent jury, knowledgeable about the art scene in Romania: Aurelia Mocanu, Ion Grigorescu, Petru Lucaci, Radu Pandele, the collector Alexandru Rus and Raluca Ilaria Demetrescu, who is also the curator of the exhibition. The selection was made from a number of 587 drawings, the creation of 347 Romanian artists who responded to the call for the first edition of the art project initiated with the intention of taking place annually, starting in 2023.
The works were chosen so that, apart from artistic excellence, a greater diversity of techniques and trends present in contemporary creation is included. It is interesting to observe the cultural and aesthetic polarity and a certain stylistic unity common to some cultural centers in Romania: Cluj, Timișoara, Iași, and Bucharest.
