The group exhibition Mapping the City from the Outside, curated by Georgia Țidorescu, marked the end of the mentoring and production program for emerging artists, Accelerator Câmpulung, which started in February this year.
“Mapping the City from the Outside initiative brings together a diverse group of eleven artists, each leaving a unique artistic imprint on the landscape of the city of Câmpulung. This project provides a platform to observe and understand the power of transformation through artistic interpretations.
Through the distinctive vision of each artist, we are presented with various elements and aspects of the city. This allows us to see how what seems mundane or familiar can be reimagined, changing our perspective on a location we might think we know well. The project inspires us to look beyond the surface and explore the layers of history, culture and personal connection that form a place’s identity.
The project offers an educational journey through the methods and processes used by artists to understand and connect with a place. Each artist, through his unique approach and style, transforms the understanding of the city into something deeply personal and individual. This not only results in a diverse range of artistic expression but also invites us to engage in a dialogue about the city, its stories and our relationship to it.
«Mapping the City from the Outside» is much more than a collection of artistic works. It is a dynamic exploration of how art can reshape our understanding of place and encourages us to build deeper connections with what surrounds us.” (Georgia Țidorescu, curator of Mapping the City from the Outside)
