The Solo Show of the artist Alina Cociere, “STĂRI ABSTRACTE/ABSTRACT STATES”, marks Thursday, March 2, the opening of the series of exhibitions from the cultural program “Window to Europe”, developed by the Arbor Culture and Arts Association for the year 2023.
The exhibition “ABSTRACT STATES by Alina Cociere” brings together canvases from different stages of the artist’s creation, revealing her entire plastic universe.
“The impact of Alina Cociere’s paintings is strong. The color, the rhythm, and the composition create the feeling of an original confession, a true emotional self-portrait. Looking at her paintings you understand how the abstract concentrates the essence of life to the maximum, remaining at the same time simple and complex, immediately combining two of the most powerful spiritual processes – contemplation and meditation.”
Natatia Şmurgun, cultural journalist
“Alina’s painting, lacking the formal framework of the figurative, fully reflects the desire for freedom of expression and self-knowledge.” (fragment taken from the curatorial text)
Born in Chisinau, to a family of doctors, Alina Cociere attended high school and fine art college, continuing with the State Institute of Academic Art V.I. Suricov from Moscow, which prepared her for an academic career at the Chisinau Art Institute. Formed in a rigorous and social-realist system, where non-compliance with academic conventions was sanctioned, the artist Alina Cociere chose, however, after graduating, to give up figurative painting, in which she did not find herself. After ’89, with the opening of the borders, Alina settled in France, where she still lives and works.
“The exhibition program “Window to Europe” presents plastic artists originating from the Republic of Moldova, who started their careers in the 80s – 90s, when changes of great impact occurred in Eastern Europe, and some of them chose migration path. They thus embarked on the path of affirmation in countries where the artist enjoys a well-defined status, but also a social security that allows him to dedicate his energy to artistic projects.
The “Window to Europe” exhibition program will present not only the creation of the invited artists, largely unknown to the Romanian public but also their professional biography and the recipe for reinvention in their adopted countries.” (fragment taken from the curatorial text)
