“GHOST GEOMETRY”- Solo Show Cristian Rusu curated by Diana Marincu at the Kunsthalle Bega

On Saturday, October 22, at the Kunsthalle Bega Gallery in Timișoara, the “GHOST GEOMETRY” exhibition was opened, which brings to the public the works of the artist Cristian Rusu. The exhibition, whose curator is Diana Marincu, takes place in conjunction with the project “Different degrees of freedom / Different Degrees of Freedom”.

Pursuing aesthetics and the idea of spatial geometries, Cristian Rusu performs site-specific works, of relatively large size, which he uses to punctuate the discordance between the vacuum and the full.
The visual game created by the artist is located within an industrial hall, where the inauguration of the Kunsthalle Bega exhibition space took place in 2019. This opposition between the empty and the full that Cristian chooses to explore starts from the dichotomy of the perceptible and the sensitive, in parallel with this being achieved an alternation between vertical and horizontal.

Having a nonconformist character, unlike the norms that often restrict contemporary creation, Cristian Rusu performs geometric works to escape from the restrictive circle of expression.
” This volumetric drawing can be a map of freedom, the search for the sublime and, at the same time, a reordering of a way of looking”, notes the curator of the event, Diana Marincu.

In parallel with “GHOST GEOMETRY”, the Kunsthalle Bega also presents to the public the project “Different degrees of freedom”, which includes the works of 12 artists both on the local and international stage: Andreea Albani (RO), Ștefania Becheanu (FR/RO), Andrei Bucovanu (RO) Mircea Cantor (FR/RO), Ștefan Curelici (RO), Judith Fegerl (AT), Adrian Ganea (RO), Marie-Claire Messouma Manlanbien (FR), Sebastian Moldovan (RO), Ciprian Mureșan (RO), Cristian Rusu (RO), Sinta Werner (DE), Anna Zvyagintseva (UA). The project explores two fundamental concepts underlying art: physical and mental freedom.

Cristian Rusu (b.1972), is a visual artist and scenographer, Ph.D. lecturer at the Faculty of Theatre and Film of the “Babeș-Bolyai” University of Cluj. In 2014 he received his Ph.D. in theatre theory at Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj. His activity is carried out around concepts related to spatiality and architecture, materializing his ideas through site-specific works. He received the Prize for scenography for the show The Tragic History of Dr. Faust at the International Theatre Festival, Kisvarda, Hungary, in 2003.

The exhibition “GHOST GEOMETRY” can be visited at the Kunsthalle Bega Gallery until December 18, 2022, from Tuesday to Saturday, from 12 a.m. to 6 p.m. Following the intervention of the artist Cristian Rusu, within the art space, the project “Different degrees of freedom” will be opened to the public, starting in January.
