For 4 days natural history will be combined with fine art at Art Safari and Antipa Museum, a unique project for the Romanian art scene.
Art Safari and Antipa exchanged exhibits. The famous giraffe from the Antipa Museum, but also lions, leopards, antelopes or polar foxes, moved these days on Lipscani, at Art Safari, while at the Antipa Museum, among the dinosaurs, there were works signed by the first modern Romanian artist, Theodor Aman, the founder of the Belle-Arte School, and Irina Dragomir.
“The collaboration between Art Safari and the Antipa Museum, which puts together works of art and exhibits of natural history, also points out that art had its role in the science of zoology. From the perspective of artists, nature is constantly the source of inspiration, the hallways of our museum are always full of students from the Faculty of Arts studying themes from nature, and from the perspective of us, the zoologists, zoology would not have been here today, without the help of art, because, until relatively recently, it was impossible to immortalize animals from faraway areas. Then the solution was for the painters who went on these expeditions to draw the animals and make them known to the public“, said the General Director of the “Grigore Antipa” National Museum of Natural History, Luis Ovidiu Popa.
“We’re finally seeing a real safari in Safari! We thank our partner, the Grigore Antipa National Museum of Natural History, for the openness showed towards this unique project in Romania, through which we exchange exhibits. We invite you to discover the important works from Antipa that will populate the Palace on Lipscani (and will tempt you to many selfies!). See you at the giraffe in the Old Town, not just the giraffe in Victoria Square! At Antipa we will organize a super temporary exhibition among dioramas and dinosaurs and so the public will discover interesting things not only about nature and animals but also about art!” said Ioana Ciocan, General Manager of Art Safari.
The initiative to exchange exhibits is part of a larger project of exchange of works with various museums. After the Museum of Natural History Grigore Antipa, it will be the turn of the “Dimitrie Leonida” National Technical Museum – with an exhibition dedicated to travel
The exhibitions can be visited until Sunday, July 10.
Tickets can be purchased online on the Art Safari or “Grigore Antipa” Museum websites.
