MALMAISON OPEN DOORS #11

This weekend the 11th edition of MALMAISON OPEN DOORS, is taking place on May 23–24, 2026, between 4:00 PM and 9:00 PM, at the Malmaison building in Bucharest (137C Calea Plevnei, Building B, 1st and 2nd floors). Over the course of two days, visitors are invited to explore artists’ studios, exhibitions, and independent spaces gathered within one of Bucharest’s most dynamic contemporary art hubs.

The event offers an extended experience of engaging with contemporary artistic practices through a program that complements studio visits with performative guided tours, performances, exhibition openings, and conversations with artists, galleries, and cultural managers. Visitors will have the opportunity to discover working processes, sketches, experiments, and projects in development, within a context that encourages direct dialogue between artists and the public.

Among the highlights of this edition is the performative guided tour “Matei’s Malmaison,” specially created for the event by Matei Nițulescu and scheduled on both days between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM, as well as the performance “Military Parade” by Teodor Graur, taking place on Saturday, May 23, from 7:30 PM to 8:00 PM on the 1st floor.

On the 1st floor, visitors will be able to enter the studios of Giles Eldridge, Otilia Boeru, Cristian Sisea, Deidré Matthee, Oana Iordăchescu, Mircea Popescu, Vanessa Beca, Sînziana Cadar, Ioana Stelea, Paul Popa, Ioana Mincu, David Pricob, Elena Dobîndă, and Chob. The floor also hosts projects by ARC Bucharest Residency featuring artist Yury Beryozkin, as well as OFFBEAT Space, presenting the “Sound Library” — a flexible setting for encounters and dialogue around collectors and archives, musical rarities, obscure titles, and landmarks in the evolution of contemporary and experimental music.

The 2nd floor brings together the studios of Zoltán Béla, Edi Constantin, Daniela Pălimariu, Dan Basu, Silvia Trăistaru, Olivia Mihălțianu, Stoyan Dechev, Floriama Cândea, Larisa Crunțeanu, Lucian Bran, Mihaela Moldovan, and Dan Vezentan. The program also includes a series of exhibitions and openings presented by the galleries and project spaces at Malmaison: ZAR presents “The Anatomy of a Memory: Fragmentarium” by Dragoș Burlacu and Răzvan Neagoe; Cabinet 44 opens the exhibition “Missed Occasions / Blooming Errors” by Adelina Ivan; while /SAC @ MALMAISON presents “Construction Site. Continuous Studio 10,” a solo exhibition by Dumitru Gorzo, curated by Alex Radu. H’Art Gallery presents “SUR/FACE” by Bianca Mann, and Sandwich Library opens its collection dedicated to visual arts, curatorial studies, architecture, and performance.

Organized twice a year, MALMAISON OPEN DOORS continues to function as a platform for openness and exchange, offering direct access to the practices and working environments of contemporary artists. The event aims to create opportunities for encounters between the public and the local art scene in an informal and accessible format.

Admission is free throughout the event.
