At CREART gallery in Bucharest (7 Alexandru Lahovari Square), the solo exhibition “Ark of Dreams” by sculptor Valentin Soare, curated by Ana Daniela Sultana, has recently opened.
Valentin Soare is one of the representative artists of the young generation of Romanian sculptors and, during this period, alongside his exhibition at the CREART Gallery, he also has three other group exhibitions in Bucharest and across the country: “Brâncuși Month” at the Galeriile de Artă ale Academiei Române and at Galeria SIMEZA, respectively “The Month of Romanian Sculptors” in Iași, an event that this year takes place under the patronage of UNESCO. In the solo show at the CREART Gallery, Valentin Soare presents, alongside sculpture works, drawings from his extensive series “The long way to the Monument,” unveiled in 2023 at Galeria Fantom in Berlin as part of the artistic residency dedicated to promoting Romanian artists in the German capital.
The sculpture exhibition “Ark of Dreams” signed by Valentin Soare is organized by the Primăria Municipiului București, through CREART – The Center for Creation, Art and Tradition of the Municipality of Bucharest, in the context of marking 150 years since the birth of the sculptor Constantin Brâncuși. (press release)
“‘Ark of Dreams’ starts from the idea of the port as a liminal space, of transit and accumulation, exploring the theme of navigation or circulation in which the works – wall objects (in stone, wood, or resin) and sketches – function as instruments of orientation or landmarks in a subjective journey proposed by Valentin Soare. At the same time, the present selection activates, in parallel, another type of itinerary: that of the becoming of sculptural form, from sketch — understood as a space of intention, of the possible and of projective geometry — to sculpture, approached in extenso. The sketch functions as a matrix of form, a place of negotiation between idea and matter, where composition remains open, reversible, and subject to transformation. The transition to the three-dimensional implies a process of sedimentation in which volume is condensed and form acquires contour, amplitude, and stability, entering into a direct relationship with space.” – Ana Daniela Sultana
Valentin Soare is a sculptor, graduate of UNArte Bucharest, with a BA and MA in sculpture, and a member of UAP. He has exhibited in public space locally, signing works that have become landmarks of the contemporary artistic landscape, such as “Steaua are Nume” (Bucharest, Piața Presei Libere) and “Degetul lui Dumnezeu” (Bucharest, the courtyard of Cărturești Bastilia Bookstore, the courtyard of the Gh. Petrașcu House, Piața Romană, the balcony of the Faculty of History of the University of Bucharest – NAG #8, Curtea Domnească Piața Sf. Anton – NAG #7, and Ghergani, Rendez-Vous aux Jardins). His exhibition activity includes participation in solo and group exhibitions organized at the Royal Palace in Bucharest, the Art Galleries of the Romanian Academy, the National Salon of Contemporary Art – SNAC, MoBU, the House of Arts in Timișoara, the National Museum Zrenjanin in Serbia, Bensousan Han Thessaloniki Greece, the Contemporary Art Museum Château de Montsoreau in France, etc.
