Ștefan Câlția and Virgil Scripcariu created eight milestones for Via Transilvanica

Via Transilvanica began its journey through Șona on Saturday, May 17, 2025, in the presence of painter Ștefan Câlția and sculptor Virgil Scripcariu, the creators of the eight milestones specially made for the road that unites.

The milestones are made of andesite, a natural material of great endurance, chosen so that the Via Transilvanica would last over time. Designed by the painter Ștefan CÂLŢIA and engraved by the sculptor Virgil SCRIPCARIU, the stone markers are adorned with symbolic plant and zoomorphic details, inspired by the historical agricultural landscape of the village of Șona.

Via Transilvanica is a long-distance route of over 1,400 kilometers. It is the “road that unites” and the most ambitious project of the Tășuleasa Social Association, celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. It is a world-class route, initiated in 2018, that crosses ten counties, seven cultural-historical regions, ethnically diverse, allowing hikers to discover Romania, experiencing tourism done in peace, in an authentic natural and cultural setting, from Putna to Drobeta-Turnu Severin. Thus, Via Transilvanica is the best ambassador of the country.

Șona is a beautiful place, cared for by villagers and several organizations that have initiatives in the village, at the meeting of architecture and contemporary art. Our Șona is an open community. On the right bank of the Olt River, in Țara Făgăraș, in Southern Transylvania. Since 1488.
