Illo-tempore. Exhibition of artists Eudochia Robu and Tatiana Vatavu from Elite Art Gallery

Between July 1 and August 2, 2024, Elite Art Gallery hosts the exhibition of artists Eudochia Robu and Tatiana Vatavu, entitled Illo-tempore, curated by Roxana Diochețanu.

Illo-tempore describes a mythical time, specific to the fairy tale, where the fabulous and the ancestral intertwine in a timeless destiny, where the laws of reality are suspended and where supernatural events occur. The exhibition brings together two distinct artistic universes, painting and ceramics, in a symbiosis that celebrates tradition and mythology, reinterpreted through modern perspectives.

The foundation of the fairy tale, expressed plastically, is anchored in the ceramic works of the artist Tatiana Vatavu, the founding edifices, which establish the coordinates of this visual journey. The fire unleashed in the stoves, and marking a purifying ritual, will open a bridge between past and present, between ancestral origins and contemporary interpretations, a ceremony in which the viewer is encouraged to participate. The metamorphoses of the narrative will occur with each canvas of the artist Eudochia Robu, the ancestral place and the eternal world painting scenes, where the forces of ancient time (re)compose to close this mythological story. The magical realism created becomes an essential landmark for understanding the expressed phenomenon, the juxtaposition between the sacred and the profane,” said Roxana Diochețanu, Elite Art Gallery Curator.

Eudochia Robu (b. 1958) graduated in 1978 from the Republican College of Fine Arts “Al. Plămădeală” from Chisinau, and during the period 1978 – 1986, he studied painting at the Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture “I. E. Repin” from St. Petersburg. In her practice, the artist describes worlds that reflect her native land, inserting elements such as houses and streets, as well as landscapes anchored between memory and dream. The artist’s works have been exhibited in the Republic of Moldova, Romania, Spain, Poland and Germany, and they can also be found in private collections in countries such as Italy, Austria, Poland, Greece, USA, France and Belgium.

Tatiana Vatavu (b. 1963) studied at the Fine Arts School for children in the city of Râșcani, graduating from the Republican College of Fine Arts “Al. Plămădeală” in 1982. Between 1985 and 1990, he studied at the Academy of Music, Theater and Fine Arts of Moldova (Moldovan State Institute of Arts). The ceramic objects of the artist are focused on folk art, a simplification of forms, which evokes a return to the origins. The artist exhibited in the Republic of Moldova and Romania as a member of the Union of Plastic Artists in the Republic of Moldova, the Department of Decorative Arts, and Artistic Ceramics.

The exhibition can be visited between July 1 and August 2, 2024, from Monday to Friday, at the Elite Art Gallery (Piața Naționile Unite, no. 3-5), between 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.
