Proximity. Solo Show Francesco Arecco at IAGA Contemporary Art

IAGA Contemporary Art hosts a new solo exhibition by Francesco Arecco, an artist represented by the gallery for over a decade. The exhibition project, curated by Ilaria Bignotti, includes seventeen works, including an ambient installation, fifteen sculptural works specially made for the exhibition during this year and one work from 2020.

The sculptor Francesco Arecco works mainly with wood, his favorite material, called to give life to a surprising sculptural alphabet that springs, with coherence and vitality, for over fifteen years, from precious essences, carefully selected and from reclaimed elements.

The artist stated about his artistic approach: “In recent years, the West has been the protagonist of a radical reorganization of social relations based on the concept of “distancing”. The fear of relating to the “other” generated by the pandemic, combined with the radicalization of digital processes increasingly supported by government policies, is at the center of a new everyday life in which social interaction in the absence of physical presence seems not only possible but also normal. The consequences of this phenomenon are visible to everyone. […] Through the works in this exhibition, I would like to reflect on the themes I have outlined above. I would like to work with my own forms, mainly with wood, but also with other materials. […]
According to the curator Ilaria Bignotti, Arecco’s personal exhibition is “made of many stories translated into sculptures […] We can stay a little longer with these works, or we can just look at and go out for a walk. They stay there, they live living us. They are our image, projections, and tension. They relate to us, near and far.”

The exhibition is complemented by a catalog in English, Italian, and Romanian, which contains the exhibition views and reproductions of all the works, with a critical text signed by Ilaria Bignotti.

Francesco Arecco (b. 1977) is a visual artist originally from Gavi, Piemonte, where he lives and works. The artist exhibited in various personal exhibitions in Italy and Europe, among which are Waiting For You (2019, Romania), Il privilegio del fulmine (2017, Italy), and Nascondimento (site-specific installation, 2013, Slovenia). He participated in numerous collective exhibitions, including: The Art of Sustainability (2017), Times and Genesis (2016), Tutto ho posto sotto i tuoi piedi (2015), E quindi uscimmo a riveder le stelle: l’approdo (2013, 2012, 2011) and others. He also participated in various art competitions, receiving recognition and special mentions.

The exhibition can be visited for free at IAGA Contemporary Art (Strada Cloşca n. 9-11, Cluj-Napoca, Romania) until June 22, from Tuesday to Saturday, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and by appointment.
