Relicvar Gallery presents the group exhibition Searching for a Sun, curated by Andreea Goța. The exhibition features the works of five artists who currently live and work in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. The artists are graduates of the University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca, and four of them are currently continuing their master’s studies in the Sculpture Department of the same university.
Ana Avram (b. 1999)
Ana Avram’s artistic practice proposes negotiating realities in spatial contexts through installations and sculptures situated on the border between materiality and meta-reality. She is interested in unnatural superpositions of familiar objects and elements, which are the result of a process of internal mediation within the limits imposed by physicality. She strongly believes in intuitive creation and research, which have as their starting point the amalgam of the subconscious, the creative product being only an honest attempt to bring it to the surface and clarify it.
Maria Brîneț (b. 2000)
Maria’s practice focuses on reinterpreting subjective and collective archives, interrogating how we can use the value of imperceptible aspects, which incorporate memory, trauma or the imperceptible transition from one generation to another. Using sculpture and installation, the artist takes an interdisciplinary and conceptual approach, always focusing on how the medium influences the message.
Miruna-Ioana Copăcel (b. 2001)
Miruna Copăcel creates works designed to challenge the viewer’s perception as well as to create a new perspective regarding preconceived notions about certain objects. She is interested in exploring themes related to the human body, especially its fragility and deconstruction in an artistic context. Her artistic approach emphasises the psychological and social aspects associated with the body, with particular attention paid to the reinterpretation and transformation of traditional objects into new contexts and meanings.
Taisia Corbut (b. 1997)
Taisia Corbuț is an emerging artist who, since the first years of university education, dedicated herself to exploring and overcoming the limits of different artistic mediums, leading to her work’s evolution towards an interdisciplinary practice. In her current artistic endeavors, Taisia Corbuț focuses on the expressive qualities of line and form, using the human figure to convey vulnerable and delicate emotions. By stripping away anecdotal details, she aims to create a visual language that captures the essence of intense singularity and personal introspection. Taisia’s work embodies a simplicity of representation, serving as a powerful reminder of the importance of being present in our inner worlds.
Through her works, she seeks to recreate a space of personal understanding and evoke a deep connection with our own emotions.
Cristina Nițu (b. 2000)
Her experience in visual arts brings her to the meeting between textile arts, sculpture and installation. Having the opportunity to express herself and work multidisciplinary, she creates compositional spaces and artistic objects that go beyond the usual themes and techniques of sculpture. The natural evolution towards the installation only complements and introduces another element into the depth of her research, a practice that sediments her current concerns.
The exhibition is open until April 11 and can be visited by appointment.
