The NOIMA Señales de Vida exhibition was inaugurated at Museo Internacional del Barroco, Puebla, Mexico, on February 2, with the support of the Romanian Cultural Institute and other partners.
Supported by the Romanian Cultural Institute, the Embassy of Romania in Mexico, the Honorary Consulate of the United Mexican States in Cluj-Napoca, the Government of the state of Puebla, and the Museum Network ‘Museos Puebla,’ the NOIMA group presents a new exhibition in Mexico at Museo Internacional del Barroco in the city of Puebla, a significant cultural, academic, and economic center.
The event commenced with the vernissage on February 2, 2024, at Museo Internacional del Barroco in Puebla, a globally renowned institution known for hosting events and housed in a building designed by the acclaimed architect Pritzker Prize laureate Toyo Ito. The museum regularly organizes exhibitions dedicated to prestigious names in the art world, such as Goya, Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, and David Alfaro Siqueiros, as well as contemporary art exhibitions.
The NOIMA Señales de Vida event primarily features paintings, highlighting the group’s reflections on their first encounter with the nature and culture of Mexico. Andrei Rosetti and Dan Gherman, two of the founding members, attended the opening. The exhibition also included the screening of the documentary NOIMA-Work in Progress, offering an extensive description of the group through interviews with American writer and curator Alan Jones, art historian and curator Ileana Pintilie, painter Constantin Flondor, Austrian curator Denise Parizek, and Ovidiu Bădescu, founder of Galleria 28 – a space dedicated to contemporary art since the ’90s.
The NOIMA Señales de Vida exhibition in Puebla, Mexico, marks the group’s third presence in the Americas, bringing attention to the group’s early artistic vision, emphasizing the spirit of observational painting. Despite evolving over time, the connection with a specific context, light, and life, rooted in the experience of plein air painting, remains a significant source and subject for NOIMA.
On March 8, 2024, a piano concert featuring works by Romanian composers, performed by Romanian origin maestra Lidia Guerberof-Hahn, will enrich the cultural experience for the Puebla audience.
NOIMA, established 20 years ago in Romania, includes artists Ciprian Bodea, Cosmin Frunteș, Dan Gherman, Andrei Rosetti, and Sorin Scurtulescu. The group explores traditional painting techniques, especially plein air, as well as other forms (photo and video) and contemporary artistic expressions (happening, performance, etc.). Since its inception, NOIMA has organized and participated in over 70 artistic events in 13 European countries.
The exhibition can be visited until March 8, 2024.
