Alexandru Antik is an artist known for his experimental work in the area of actionism and multimedia installation. His works cross various mediums, such as object, installation, action, video or photography. Often the artist combines several artistic genres or presents the props of his actions, organized or recreated in various installations.
Over the decades, Antik presented a series of action performances in various artistic and unconventional spaces, most of which were presented on a single occasion. To recover these actions for the collective memory and at the same time to achieve a more efficient archiving of them, the artist transfigures his actions into multimedia installations, which evoke the atmosphere of the original event better than a simple photograph or textual description. He conceptually reuses the props of his actions, and in this way traces and documentation of old works become elements of installations and correspond to the multimedia functions of the created installation. In the exhibition “ACȚIUNI, URME, RECUZITE/ ACTIONS, TRACES, PROPERTIES” the artist presents a segment of these activities.
Alexandru Antik (1950, Reghin) has been active on the Romanian art scene since the late 1970s as a member of the young artists’ movement, Atelierul 35. After 1990, he participated in numerous Romanian and international performances and multimedia art exhibitions.
The artist lives and works in Cluj.
