On Thursday, April 2,2026, starting at 7PM, 2/3 Galeria opens the solo exhibition of artist Alexandru Paul, titled PEACE AND QUIET. ORDER AND DISCIPLINE, in the presence of the artist. The exhibition brings together a selection of photographs produced since 2024, part of the series Still Untitled.
“The project questions the status of the photographic image in contemporaneity. Part of Alexandru Paul’s practice unfolds within the field of art reproduction – precisely, in photographing artworks and exhibitions. His vision for the Still Untitled series takes shape through this process and revolves around a distinction. The photograph of an object (an artwork with patrimonial value) is an instance in which representation becomes subordinate to the represented object, whereas the photograph-as-such possesses intrinsic value regardless of its depicted content. From this tension emerges illusion – the pathway through which form comes into being only to be photographed, and objects are conceived not to exist in themselves, outside the frame, in reality, but solely to become image. Ephemeral structures, configured directly in front of the camera within the studio space, acquire consistency, volume, and tridimensionality exclusively within the two-dimensional plane of representation. Their coherence is therefore strictly imaginal.” (excerpt from the curatorial text)
Alexandru Paul (b. 1971, Baia Mare) is a visual artist working with photography, video, drawing, and installation. With a background in film and engineering, his practice interrogates notions such as authenticity, authorship, and the truth-value of representation. His works explore themes such as intimacy and fear through a paradoxical approach that destabilizes familiar visual structures. Over the past 25 years, he has also developed a strong parallel career as a commercial photographer. His works have been exhibited in galleries and museums in Romania and abroad.
The exhibition can be visited util April 23, 2026, at 2/3 Gallery, 4 Franceză Street, Bucharest.
