Between March 7 and 23, 2025, the Technical Museum “Prof. Ing. Dimitrie Leonida” hosted the exhibition YGGDRASILL, curated by Mălina Ionescu and signed by the artist Mircea Modreanu.
“YGGDRASILL is one of Mircea Modreanu’s most recent projects and, at the same time, a natural continuation of previous themes and a change of perspective already announced by the frottages and drawings included in his exhibition About oneself, crosses and others, curated by Călina Coman in the MNȚRplusC space. The central motif of the exhibition is the tree of life, a symbol whose destiny is, beyond the diversity of its representations, always to erase the delimitations and seals between the planes of existence.
Mircea Modreanu looks at the tree of life in all its complexity: it is assimilated to man or a companion of the human experience in all its stages; The tree is unifying, only apparently dual: it is archetypal and individual, axis of the world and decorative superstructure, structure generating geometry and naturalistic representation of the vegetal element, symbol of resurrection and emblematic presence in rites of passage – but it does so from an affective, personifying perspective.
The YGGDRASILL project is a moment of introspection, return and research from the perspective of one’s own personal and artistic trajectory of the connection with an archaic fund of symbols and morphologies that belong on the one hand to a specific cultural area, that of the community of the Momârlans in the Petroșani area, but also to a symbolic reality that precedes, exceeds or is found beyond the geographical, cultural or temporal boundaries of various mythologies.”

This exhibition is part of an extensive artistic research project carried out by Mircea Modreanu, which will include itinerant stages in various exhibition spaces and museum institutions.
