Theodor Grigoraș. The Myth of Edifices at Arbor.art.room

Arbor.art.room presents the painting exhibition “The Myth of Edifices” by visual artist Theodor Grigoraș. Curated by Ana Daniela Sultana, the exhibition brings together recent works by the artist.

“Recent theories state that time is not linear and that the past, present and future coexist. The architectural and cultural symbols that Theodor Grigoraș claims in this selection take us on a journey through time, in which cosmogonic hypotheses overlap with current landmarks, whether it is about the evolution of humanity (in the work in which the metaphor of Expulsion from Paradise merges with Kubrick’s Space Odyssey), about scientific discoveries (as we encounter in the series of characters with multiple hands, like Hindu deities – a reference to the statue of Shiva at CERN in Switzerland) or about exaggerated entertainment (symbolized by the Champions Cup).

The archetypes in «The Myth of Edifices» – the Triumphal Arch, the Tower from the Major Arcana of the Tarot, the representation of Shiva, the snake – transposed through the artist’s stylistic filter, refer to the idea of transformation, a central theme in Theodor Grigoraș’s painting. Nothing stands still, everything is in constant change, and we are interconnected and influenced by what surrounds us, from light, color, shape, location of objects in space, acoustics, to the presence or absence of plants and organic materials in our habitat. Buildings created or imagined by man access, through visual, (re)configuring play, the staging of the (un)real of urban or subjective mythologies, in a research in which the symbol becomes a pretext for plastic and interior narratives.” – Ana Daniela Sultana
