“The Most Beautiful Night‟ | Exhibition signed by MARARA at Elite Art Gallery

Elite Art Gallery invites you to the exhibition “The Most Beautiful Night‟, signed by MARARA. The opening of the event will be held on Wednesday, December 7, at 6 p.m.

“As the night approaches and the contours of reality melt away, when I feel half numb by the events of the day, thoughts begin to run with their own forces, leaving as far away as possible the pointless clamor behind them. Near the edge of Night, I feel lighter and lighter, I comfortably push myself into the pillows and let my thoughts choose their paths. […] Then I carry myself around here, closer, and I sneak through the birds, the trees, the friends, strangers, and I hear their most hidden thoughts. […] In the morning, I am a cumbersome dragonfly that flies through cafes and looks for the aroma of awakening, then I am a trumpeter exalted by everything around me, by what I have to do and say, then it seems to me that I am a snail who dreams of speed and never stops crocheting images, that I am a screenwriter in an absurdly beautiful piece or a retired lady with a mustache who sits in a salon lit with huge chandeliers and it combines stories, characters, and places that no longer exist. We, humans, are the interpreters of our lives, on one of the most beautiful nights!

MARARA is the name of the workshop that brings together Mara Patriche and Marilena Burcea. The two artists use natural materials, from which they create figurines and other decorative objects, made of ceramics (Mara) and wood (Marilena). Mara and Marilena graduated from the National University of Art in Bucharest, the Faculty of Fine Arts, painting department. Before MARARA, Mara worked in the management of an art gallery, public art projects, and curatorship, while Marilena devoted herself to painting, teaching, and interior design. Both of them began to experiment in their workshop by working with wood, respectively with clay.

Marilena: My characters are created through an archaeological process of recovery and reconstruction, they are storytelling beings who bear the traces of the places and objects found.
The story of the works is a journey into space, it takes shape long before entering the workshop. It begins in the homes of people who build a home, arrange their home, their spirit, their being, wanting peace. When these objects lose their meaning or usefulness and become undesirable, I recover them, recompose them, give them a new meaning in another form, and become an A.D.N. (DNA) for a new creation, a source for a new beginning, like an eternal good night story imagined on the spot.

Mara: I am inspired by any situation or event in everyday life. I like to say that my characters or objects are innocent, peeled off of any touch or urban complication, and are brought close to a poetic, naïve appearance. I imagine a world of clay populated by creatures, natural or architectural fragments. It is a world of old, of pure forms in which the figurative is simplified to the discovery of primitive features, untouched by the vice of modernity. I dream of an idealized, irrational, pure world, far from any conflict, where love and life are hardened in their innocent and emotive form.

The exhibition can be visited until January 7, 2023. Free entrance.
