The “The Limits of Identity” artistic installation by Dimitrie Luca Gora was presented at /SAC Malmaison in the “Original Spaces / Legalized Gestures” installation.
About the series of installations, the artist stated: “My installations, such as “MacGas” and “Brave Pikachu”, are designed by combining everyday objects from my childhood with nostalgic and ironic elements. These installations not only integrate into the gallery’s landscape but redefine it, creating a dialogue between past and present. The performative act of the choreographers adds a dynamic dimension, making each installation an integral part of a living and interactive landscape. In this context, the installations become focal points of interaction and reflection, inviting viewers to reconsider their own memories and national identity.
I chose the objects for the installation series based on their ability to evoke strong memories and emotions. For example, the old stove and the rubber duck are symbols of my post-communist childhood, things that carry with them a deep emotional charge. By reinterpreting the objects in a contemporary context, I challenge viewers to reconsider how they influence our national and individual identity. In addition, (seemingly) mundane objects take on new meanings when placed in the context of current global themes such as global warming, war and the loss of innocence.”
The installation “Original spaces / Legalized gestures” is made by Simona Dabija (choreographer and performer), Ioana Marchidan (choreographer and performer), Rucsandra Pop (playwright), Dimitrie Gora (visual artist), Maria Ghement (architect), Justin Baroncea (architect), Alexandru Suciu (music), SET atelier (set design production), Ilinca Pop (graphics) and Alex Radu (curator).
