The collective exhibition at MATCA artspace, “A Song Used to Lull a Child to Sleep”, explores the fragile boundaries between lucidity and dream

MATCA artspace in Cluj-Napoca presents the exhibition “A Song Used to Lull a Child to Sleep”, a curatorial initiative by the SLPOVR Collective, which brings together the works of the artists Lucian Barbu, Lorena Buta, Vlad Cocieru, George Crîngașu, Cătălina Milea, and Katarzyna Wyszkowska.

“Inspired by the lullaby as a gentle gesture of care and control, this exhibition explores the fragile boundaries between lucidity and dream, in a space that claims to offer safety and tranquility. Sleep is not a simple pause, but an active terrain in which the body and mind seek refuge and, subtly, resist an overwhelming reality. In a hectic world, dominated by the pressure of productivity and technology, sleep becomes fragmented and tense, and finding a comfortable and safe environment becomes increasingly important.” (excerpt from the curatorial text)

The Sleepover Project is a nomadic curatorial collective dedicated to promoting contemporary art, collaboration and interdisciplinary initiatives. Initiated by Daria Corlațan, Andreea Goța and Maria Rusu, the collective bases its activity on the idea of hospitality and exchange, creating flexible and constantly transforming contexts, in which participants are encouraged to experiment and discover new perspectives together.

The exhibition is part of the FORWARD residency, hosted by MATCA artspace, and will be presented as part of Praxis! Emerging Curators Days, an event dedicated to young curators, organized in Cluj-Napoca between June 26 and July 13, 2025, at the initiative of the University of Art and Design.

The exhibition can be visited until July 7 at MATCA space on Calea Turzii 21, Cluj-Napoca.
