Subversive – a nostalgic and contrasting multimedia experience

The “Octav Băncilă” Gallery in Iasi invites the public to the group exhibition Subversive, a nostalgic and contrasting multimedia experience, prepared by the AP.6 group.

The opening is scheduled for Thursday, December 28, from 6:00 p.m. Radu-Mihai Tănasă, Ioana Mihai, Laura Stoica, Ruxandra Mărgineanu together with the curator Maria Bilașevschi and the co-curator Cristiana Ursache will be present at the opening.

“Exhibited as a site where seemingly disparate elements once reunited retrospectively and temporally document amalgamated histories, the artists urge us to imagine each installation as an artifact that narrates a sensation, an emotion, a memory, exploring visual memory in direct connection with the affective one. Extracting and framing the memory, without aestheticizing or contextualization that pursues the romantic rendering of reality, which, most often, involves masking the truth, each artist assumes his speech without making a satirical statement about the past.

More than a self-diary, each posture of memory is, in fact, a way of self-organization, of one’s own human and artistic existence that actively integrates the past, the family, the genealogy not so much to archive the family baggage in the present, but to push each of us to interact with our own memories, landmarks, symbols, to assume our identity and specificity, even if this means admitting that we are nowhere near perfect.” mentions Maria Bilashevschi, the curator of the exhibition.

“Subversive is an artistic expression through which the exhibitors show their creativity by working with elements inspired by people from their past who had a significant impact on their artistic journey. The Ap.6 group approaches the subject of the formation of an artist’s personality through the influences accumulated in the past from various contexts with a strong formative effect felt in both a positive and negative variant.” says Cristiana Ursache, co-curator of the exhibition.

The holiday season is an opportunity to reflect on relationships with others, and why not, the experience of visiting a gallery can lead to the formation of new types of connections or to the transformation of existing ones. “This exhibition proposes an artistic exploration of the relationship between the influence of certain agents or experiences on artistic development with a strong autobiographical character.” say the members of Ap.6.

The exhibition Subversive can be visited until January 8, 2024.
