From July 15 to August 15, 2025, PARTER Gallery in Cluj-Napoca presents the exhibition SEQUENCE_01, signed by artist Matei Bejenaru and curated by Horea Avram. The public is invited to the opening on Tuesday, July 15, starting at 7:00 PM.

“The Sequence_01 project is first and foremost an exercise in artistic research. One of remarkable coherence and depth due to its artistic audacity, technical rigor and operational vision. The conceptual stake of the project lies in exploring technological media for producing images such as photography and film, as well as the mechanisms of their reception.

In this endeavor, Matei Bejenaru capitalizes on two major artistic and theoretical directions: the experimental structuralist film of the 60s and 70s and psychoanalytic thinking applied to non-narrative cinema. On the one hand, the artist investigates the filmic “device”, the materiality of the visual support, the temporality of the image and the mechanisms of image production, on the other hand, he brings to the fore the subjective and unconscious perception of the viewer, located on the border between the real, the perceived and the imagined.

The “vintage” technical means are used by the artist not only as a nostalgic tool, but as a programmatic assumption of his artistic strategy, which has been focused for many years on the objectual side of photography, on the materiality of film and the archaeology of the gaze. Thus, Sequence_01 becomes an opportunity for post-photographic and meta-cinematic reflection, proposing a framework for understanding the nature of the image and perception in an era dominated by visual technologies in continuous transformation. A framework that announces its posterity through its very name: Sequence_01.”
