Between May 7 and May 31, 2024, Elite Art Gallery hosts the personal exhibition of the artist Mihai Bara, entitled “Dark Rainbow”, curated by Ioana Mirică.
The exhibition will open on May 9, starting at 6:00 p.m., with Prof. Dr. Marius Tița as its guest. It will be a special evening during which the guests will have the opportunity to discover not only the artist’s works but also to enjoy a vibrant atmosphere, with a musical moment performed by the accordionist Elvis Buruiana. The exhibition includes a series of works created by the artist in the last two years that synthesize a universe full of metaphors and symbols.
The exhibition “Rainbow of Darkness” by the artist Mihai Bara offers a captivating view of the human journey, starting from the inner darkness and reaching the light emanating from each individual. Through the two opposed poles, which intertwine in the works, a new universe is created, a parallel reality in which the artist’s ideas, uncertainties and desires come to life. Mihai Bara “talks” to us about the path, creed and destiny, but also about the light within us.
“The works have an exuberant energy, with complex characters that steal your gaze. Navigating through the scenes created by the artist, it is as if we are spectators not only of Mihai Bara’s experiences but of the entire human existence”, said Ioana Mirică, Curator of Elite Art Gallery.
The rainbow, this fascinating natural phenomenon, is a patch of color that streaks the sky and spreads light even when there are clouds. A symbol of life and the joy of living, it is reflected in the color palette used by Mihai Bara as a celebration of light in our ephemeral presence on earth. Although they are in antithesis, light and darkness are two concepts that go perfectly together. So, Darkness, a symbol of loneliness and anxiety, is necessary in this context.
Darkness induces the idea of mystery to be explored and deciphered, provoking our curiosity to discover the hidden truth beyond it. It can also be a metaphor for ultimate solitude, in whose stillness we can see things more clearly, but also a representation of renewal and transformation, a concept often found in initiation rituals.
“Why the rainbow of darkness? Because we come from darkness and return to darkness, and in the short interval that is called life, we spread light and color to others, with more or less talent, each of us tries to radiate what is best and holiest in us ” justified Mihai Bara when asked where the idea of the title under which he grouped the works presented in the exhibition in Bucharest started.
Mihai Bara (b. 1961) studied at the High School and the National Art School in Brașov, his hometown. He frequently collaborates with galleries in France, Andorra and Spain, but he also had personal exhibitions in the United States of America, Brussels, London, Rome, Bucharest and Brașov. In 2018, the artist received the Grand Prize of the Society of Poets and Artists of France (SAPF) at the 60th International Congress of Poets and Artists. He participated in the 2022 Venice International Art Biennale as a guest artist of the Saphira & Ventura NY gallery. In 2023, he was chosen as the artist of the year in Andorra.
