Constanța Casino and Art Safari have opened the exhibition EA: Regina și Marea, which presents to art and history lovers an exhibition concept centered on the profound relationship between Regina Maria a României and the Black Sea.
This cultural initiative is complemented by a contemporary art satellite exhibition – “Sea Sisters. Stories by the Seaside” – bringing together emerging and established women artists whose practices are deeply connected to the Dobrogea region and the shores of the Black Sea, where Queen Maria experienced some of the most beautiful moments of her life. The exhibition was opened on March 13 at the Art Galleries of Constanța.
Hosted at the Art Galleries on 15 Ștefan cel Mare Street, Constanța, the exhibition gathers artists who share a special connection with the Dobrogean landscape and the Black Sea coast.
“The exhibition aims to bring into the present and symbolically continue the idea of artistic patronage supported by Queen Maria, evoking the period of the Association of Women Painters and Sculptors, one of the most important initiatives dedicated to the affirmation of women artists in Romania during the interwar period. The Association was founded in 1916 in Bucharest by artists Cecilia Cuțescu-Storck and Olga Greceanu, with the support of Queen Maria. Through this dialogue between heritage and contemporary creation, the exhibition at the Art Galleries of Constanța reaffirms the role of freedom in women’s art across time,” stated Ioana Ciocan, Managing Partner of Art Safari.
The artists featured in the exhibition are Ana Bănică, Irina Dragomir, Mădălina Andronic, Nadina Stoica, Mimi Pleșoioanu, Anca Benera, Iuliana Vîslan, Ecaterina Vrana, Ana Chiorean, Alina Aldea, Ana TN Bănică, Magda Pelmuș, Roxana Benea, Flavia Lupu, Alexandra Tudosia, Carmen Marin, Adriana Hodorcă, and Alexandra Grigore. The exhibition Sea Sisters. Stories by the Seaside is curated by Ioana Ciocoiu.
The Art Galleries of Constanța have recently undergone a refurbishment process and have been entrusted for administration to Patrimoniu Constanța Litoral, the same entity that manages the Constanța Casino. Organized in partnership with Art Safari, this exhibition is the first to take place in the renewed space, which aims to bring relevant contemporary artists—particularly local talents—to the attention of the Constanța public.
Further details regarding access and visiting hours will soon be available on the official website of the Constanța Casino and on the Art Safari website.
