Opening “Pull, Push, Hit, Walk” | Solo Show Raluca Pavelescu at Laborna Gallery

The exhibition of artist Raluca Pavelescu “Pull, Push, Hit, Walk”, curated by Ciprian Paleologu, opens the 2023 exhibition season proposed by Galeria Laborna, which this year celebrates 10 years of activity.

The opening takes place on Tuesday, April 11, between 6-9 p.m.

Deception as a profound human emotion is the main theme of Raluca Pavelescu’s art project. The exhibition is established on a foundation realized from engravings and frame-by-frame animation techniques. The feeling of disappointment is reflected in social, personal, political, etc mirrors. It is the conclusion of a process where our actions failed the expectations. The deception became a senseless, absurd phenomenon, a huge existential gap.

Symbolic Raluca Pavelescu identifies the human being in a series of common actions as such: a character who carries two heavy objects nearby a line of numbers ( the hidden meaning is referring to the number of days since Raluca’s father hasn’t spoken to her), perspective sequences of a space fulfilled with repetitive actions performed by humans. Utilitarian objects like the nail and the hammer turn into symbols of destruction, the sense of disappointment and hopelessness becomes oppressive.

In the exhibition, the human emotion evoked becomes almost a low-pitched background sound that envelops the viewer. Each individual who goes through the sequences will be able to create his own movie.

A special element is the installation Povestea Cuiului/ The Story of the Nail, made with the support of the Oprișor Winery, composed of a series of 12 wine bottles that become a support for a series of animation type engravings.

Raluca Pavelescu is a master’s student at the University of Art and Design in Cluj Napoca, specializing in graphics. The exhibition represents the prize offered last year by Galeria Laborna within Expomarathon, the 10th edition, an event organized by the University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca for young artists.

The exhibition can be visited until April 28, 2023. Admission is free.
