On Wednesday, December 18, 2024, starting at 6:00 p.m., at the CREART Gallery in Bucharest, the opening of the personal exhibition Măști de pițărăi by the artist Mircea Modreanu, curated by Ana Daniela Sultana, will take place. Organized by the Capital City Hall through CREART, the exhibition presents an installation inspired by the traditions of the winter holidays.
Mircea Modreanu is a visual artist, cultural project manager and gallerist. He attended the courses of the Faculty of Fine Arts at UAD Cluj, and immediately after completing his degree, he reconfigured his route to Bucharest. In 2014, he completed his master’s degree at UNArte’s graphics department, and a year later, he founded an NGO, representing his debut as an organizer of cultural projects. Since 2018, when the E T A J artist-run space project was born, it has organized exhibitions in the space in Bucharest, on George Enescu Street 43, where it has invited over 200 artists to date. In the lockdown, as a form of documentation and archiving, he started filming interviews with artists, which he uploaded to the YouTube channel ETAJ TV; is the coordinator of E T A J Magazine, a publication launched out of the desire to promote contemporary art and local artists. From 2021, it presents the Romanian artist-run scene in an international context, participating in art fairs for independent initiatives in Aarhus, Stockholm, Budapest, Madrid, Milan, Los Angeles and Ciudad de Mexico.
Ana Daniela Sultana is a curator and publicist, a University of Applied Arts graduate in Vienna. She publishes articles in ARTA Magazine, Orizonturi Culturale Italo-Romane and on agentiadecarte.ro. It collaborates with institutions such as CREART – the Center for Creation, Art and Tradition of the City of Bucharest, the International Cultural Center of Krakow, ICR Istanbul, ICR Vienna, ICR Venice, the Austrian Cultural Forum Bucharest, the Museum of the Municipality of Bucharest, the National Museum of Romanian Literature in Bucharest, The Art Museum of Timisoara, Kunsthalle Feldbach, Aluniș Art Center and numerous contemporary art galleries.
Built on the format of a white box, the CREART Gallery – a project of the Center for Creation, Art and Tradition of the Municipality of Bucharest – is an exhibition space dedicated to contemporary art, with solo shows by established names but also by emerging artists.
The exhibition can be visited until January 31, 2025.
