Until the 6th of August, the exhibition On being Human and Other Speculative Beings. A Parable of Becoming can be visited at Galeria Posibilă. The event presents the dissertation of Alexandra Boaru, an emerging, multi-disciplinary artist with a special passion for photography, video, and performance.
Starting from the theme that she approached in her bachelor’s thesis, Alexandra creates an osmotic framework, in which the pieces, although made in different mediums, such as photography, video, or sculpture, seem to intertwine harmoniously, without eclipsing each other.

“I once wanted to become a plant…” are the words that Alexandra Boaru wants to convey both through the images made and through the texts that accompany her works, contributing to their completion. The exhibition circuit includes 8 artworks: Mother of Children, a photographic installation, whose frame made out of polyurethane foam connects the visitor, starting from the entrance, to the artist’s movable universe; Solastalgia, a sound sculpture with which the public is invited to interact; May my womb be a crawling space for all that is living and Fragile-liquid-soft, two video sculptures that give Alexandra’s attention for multi-dimensional works; A Farewell Act of Love and Corporeal Substitutes, a set of photos exhibited in the form of an installation, respectively a series of 5 pieces; Random Ordering of a Mobile Man, an installation made out of eryngium campestre (devil’s velvet) and links, which combines the fragility of dried leaves with the hardness of the metal, through a support alternation; Dried Fruiting Bodies, a work made with artificial hair and nail palette, on one hand, and rose thorns, on the other.

The multimedia installations capture the artist’s intimacy, having a strong confessional character through which she reproduces moments of discovery and transposition of a self-portrait. The thorns of roses are an element often approached by Alexandra, through which she gives a special materiality to her works, being, as in the case of plants, more than a simple aesthetic component.
“I think we could all take a short vacation from being human by becoming something else from time to time,” says the artist, quoting Thomas Thwaites, the designer who makes objects in order to explore the social and psychological impact of technology.
Starting from this idea, visitors are invited to join the artistic event and to discover at Galeria Posibilă the way in which Alexandra Boaru reproduces the relationship between man and nature, without taking into account the contemporary limitations of this concept.
Galeria Posibilă is an artistic space in Bucharest, established since 2001. Over time, it has been involved in promoting young artists, thus having a significant portfolio.
Alexandra Boaru’s exhibition can be visited until the 13th of July, from Wednesday to Friday between 16:00-21:00, and on Saturday between 14:00-20:00, and later, until the 6th of August, from Wednesday to Friday between 10:00-17:00, by appointment, and on Saturday also between 14:00-20:00.
