“Nothing is what it seems – nothing is what it seems to be. This phrase transports us to the time immemorial when humanity – captive at the bottom of the cave – imagined its world by the image of the shadows projected on the wall. This history is nothing more than a parable, a theoretical construction, which, no matter how absurd, constituted the foundation of Western thought until the last century. […]
The exhibition Nothing is What It Seems poses the problem of representation, of the correspondence between what we see/image and reality. Bringing together the efforts of nine artists who explore various visual media such as photography, painting, graphics, ceramics/glass, video, and installation, an interdisciplinary approach to the presented artistic practices is emphasized, emphasizing the installation/performative nature that they accumulate in the exhibition space. A defining characteristic of contemporary art is the quality of the works, to gravitate towards the immersive. Thus, the formal boundaries of reception begin to dissolve progressively, allowing the viewer to relate to art not as an intangible entity but more as an extension and interpreted projection of their own existence.
Nothing Is What It Seems – as a collective exhibition – becomes a challenge and an invitation to receive the visible from a perspective freed from stereotypes, becoming a starting point in the discovery of particular artistic practices. ” (fragment from the curatorial text)
The exhibition can be visited until August 8, 2024.
