M-UCENICII/ A Friendship. Exhibition Paul Gherasim and Christian Paraschiv at MNȚR

The National Museum of the Romanian Peasant, in partnership with Galeria Romană, organizes the exhibition “M-UCENICII / A Friendship”, Paul Gherasim (1925-2016) and Christian Paraschiv, whose opening is scheduled for Tuesday, May 28, 2024, 6:00 p.m., Sala Tancred Bănățeanu (Sos Kiseleff, no. 3, Bucharest).

“The present exhibition brings to light two artists linked to the Orthodox religious creed. During the 1960s and 1970s, Paul Gherasim, surrounded by Ioan Alexandru, Radu Petrescu, Daniel Turcea and others, worked on a series entitled “BOLTA DE LUMINĂ” where pure geometry takes up the construction of Byzantine vaults. In addition to this theme, we will also find works with the titles LOGOS, LAMBDA, the series of Peasants and that of Martyrs! At Paraschiv, which asserts itself as a leading representative of the 80s generation in Romanian visual arts, we find works from the tumulus, relics, and pavilions series. The December 1981 exhibition at the Simeza Gallery, entitled STRUNGA, will bind the friendship of the two artists for life.

The presence of the sacrificial lamb, the plan of a Greek church consisting of two sheepskins, the representation of the trinity are so many approaches to faith in God! Later, we will find Christian Paraschiv and other themes, such as NOMOS, EIKONE, etc. The two artist friends founded in 1985, together with three colleagues, the group Prolog! The group continues to exist today, with the same creeds that bound them all these years: the return to nature, friendship, working together, the purity of the apple blossom…” (Christian Paraschiv, May 2024).

Silvia Paraschiv Ungureanu, Christian Paraschiv and Emil Ene will speak at the opening of the exhibition and it can be visited between May 28 and June 16, 2024.
