The exhibition “Ioan Aurel Mureșan. Stories from Under the Bridge”, curated by Călin Dan, was prolonged and can still be until May 19, 2024. This is accompanied by the author’s volume of 11 elegies, bearing the same title.
Ioan Aurel Mureșan is a key figure of the generation that emerged in the ninth decade of the last century, called since then “the 80s generation”. Disciplined but solitary, he assimilated the neo-expressionist tendencies that broadly defined that period, but quickly moved towards other cultural worlds, where literature, film and music became sources of inspiration and resources for a constantly changing path.
“Stories from Under the Bridge” is the latest transformation of this artist who is constantly moving towards other horizons, remaining faithful to his two long-standing loves: painting and poetry.
“The painterly sequences [of Ioan Aurel Mureșan] unfold unexpectedly. Under the immutable geometry of a bridge, new scenes appear in the fulguration of a moment that settles, reconfigures, rearranges the world according to lines of force out of control… In their train, incongruities and all sort of mismatches are neutralized, entering the order of a permissive imagination that leaves room for mirage: under a violaceous sky Anubis peacefully watches two girls comfortingly playing with water lily flowers and petals; in an idyllic landscape, next to a small bridge, a dragon with a mane of fire comes out; in the gap between the rocks of a gulf, on the thin line of a bridge, the uncanny silhouette of a white dauphin fills one with wonder.”
