Artist Beaver’s Gray Area exhibition, hosted by ArtSafe, can be visited Monday through Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
“Gray Area is a universe that wants to absorb you. It challenges you. Is playing. It is uninhabited. He breaks the rules on purpose. It is a counterpoint. He irritates you by smiling. He is a friend of pop art. It embraces a “highbrow kitsch” aesthetic – as the artist himself declares – and is proud of it. Specific kitsch clichés are fashioned insatiably into new and new forms, like soft plasticine, bewildered by a provocative question: “Why not?”.
Gray is a refrain. It’s a playground. It is fertile ground for whatever interests the artist more pressingly, giving birth to multiple sub-themes and infinite possibilities. He creates a collage effect by superimposing shapes, like cutouts, that fragment it. He brings up a duel between color and non-color, between flat and painterly, walking the fine line between harmony and dissonance, order versus chaos, pleasant versus unpleasant.” – Andreea Eliza Petrov
Celula de Artă debuted in 2017 as a street-opening space. It aimed to allow works to escape from the classic gallery space and interact with a new audience that is not used to attending openings; in this context, as there is no longer a physical and temporal barrier between the art object and the viewer, a free, direct, and non-conformist dialogue is created.
The gallery supports contemporary creation in the thematic areas of visual arts and encourages the development of new forms of artistic expression. The showcase space on B-dul Carol no. 53 is accessible to the street public at any time.
With a presence of over 6 years on the Bucharest art scene, Celula de Artă has supported over 190 events (exhibitions, performances, live shows). Starting in 2022, the Art Cell expanded its activity through a Pop-Up Window within the program Feat. Kulterra, which hosts “visiting art”, but also at the Vertical Gallery in the Random Space premises, at ArtSafe, the only professional and authorized repository of art and collectibles in Romania, and at the Bragadiru Palace, thanks to the support offered by Bulevart.
