On Wednesday, April 9, at 7:00 PM, /SAC @ Malmaison will host an interdisciplinary dialogue about art, science and beginnings between Alexandra Cojocaru and Ruxandra Gubernat.
Genesis—a word loaded with multiple meanings and symbols—marks the zero point of creation. A liminal threshold between existence and what precedes it, whatever that initial state may be. A term that pulsates through arts and sciences alike, from the act of creation to the miracle of life, from the idea germinated in darkness to the first breath of light.
The linguistic and phonetic play between “genesis” and “genetics” creates a framework for dialogue between Dr. Alexandra Cojocaru, a geneticist, and Ruxandra Gubernat, a documentary filmmaker and researcher, whose personal experience with infertility has transformed into a profound, artistic exploration of human resilience. A conversation about beginnings—of life, of science, of identity—caught between biological determinism and personal journeys. In an era when every day seems to herald the imminence of a new beginning—fragile, unpredictable, uncertain—such discussions become essential in the public cultural space.
The discussion will take place in Romanian, and active and relaxed audience participation is encouraged. Genesis is the second talk within the LASER Talks Bucharest program, hosted by /SAC and moderated by Natalia Marin and Alex Radu.
The LASER (Leonardo Art Science Evening Rendezvous) program is an international initiative of the Leonardo network, which brings together artists, scientists, engineers and professionals from various fields to discuss projects and ideas at the intersection of art and science. These meetings are held in cities around the world, promoting the exchange of knowledge and collaboration between creative and scientific disciplines.
Leonardo is the leading platform dedicated to research and education, with a special focus on the intersection of science, technology and art. Founded as a global network in 1968, Leonardo magazine published by MIT Press and the website www.leonardo.info have become a reference source for professionals, researchers and artists, promoting innovative research works and interdisciplinary collaborations.
