The National Art Museum of Moldova, in partnership with Galeria Romană in Bucharest, inaugurated the exhibition of the PROLOG Group.
The Prolog Group has existed for more than three decades. What is surprising, at first glance, is that its members were not connected to a specific artistic movement. On the contrary, in these 30 years, each developed individually, went his own way, but periodically met to exhibit together. The friendship brought them together for the first time and then became the red thread of the Prolog Group’s existence.
The most diverse themes appear in their works: landscapes, static natures, fields, buds and flowers, the peasant as the archetype of the nation, geometries and spaces, fragments of history, but also themes that approach the space of Christian spirituality such as the Vault, the Bell, the Cross, The Sarcophagus, the Vessel, the Wheat, the Fish, the Bread, all urging the search for the simple thing, the primordial origin, towards the discovery through the great book of nature and the gift of faith.
The Prolog group developed not only as a “gathering” of painters, but became a school of thought. Throughout its existence, Prolog has polarized people from various fields – architects, writers, historians, critics – all sharing the same moral and aesthetic human values.
Paul Gherasim was aware of the need to plant the seed of continuity, so he brought many young people closer to him, to whom he shared these transcendental states from everyday life to spirituality, to the gift of “sight”, beyond what is seen.
The exhibition exhibits works signed by Constantin Flondor, Paul Gherasim, Ion Grigorescu, Matei Lăzărescu, Dan Mohanu, Christian Paraschiv, Horea Paștina, Mihai Sârbulescu and Valentin Scarlătescu.
The exhibition will remain open to the public until February 11, 2024.
