The painting exhibition EMERGING ME: BREAKING THE ICE – 2025, at Scemtovici & Benowitz gallery in Bucharest, brings together the works of 35 artists, winners and finalists of the first international competition organized in Romania for professional painters under the age of 30.
The selection of the exhibited works was made based on the scores awarded by individual secret votes by the jury of this edition, from a base comprising 255 paintings registered by 118 artists from Romania, the Republic of Moldova, Hungary, and the United Kingdom.
The judging of the works was ensured by professionals and connoisseurs of the local and international contemporary art scene: Petru Lucaci – painter, university professor, president of the Romanian UAP; Remus Grecu – painter; Mark Metcalfe – painter; Raluca Ilaria Demetrescu – visual artist and curator; Andrei Ciurdărescu – painter and university lecturer; Silviu Ilcuș – collector of modern and contemporary art.
The Art Movements Foundation Awards for Emerging Painting – 2025 were awarded as follows: First Prize – Ștefania Ciobanu for the work It’s Better This Way, oil on canvas; Second Prize – Arthur Boothby for Host, oil on canvas; Third Prize – Alexandru Revesz for Anti-St. Michael, oil on plywood. The Collector’s Award was presented to Ioana Tocoaie-Perju for The Atla Odyssey, mixed media on canvas, by Mr. Silviu Ilcuș, partner of this edition.

The exhibition is open until July 5, 2025, on Fridays and Saturdays from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and on Sundays from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, or by appointment.
