A new season of Creative Night Talks was launched at the beginning of September. The discussions moderated by Mihaela Ion, art historian and independent curator, are addressed to cultural and creative industries in Romania and are broadcast live and distributed simultaneously on different social media platforms. The discussion is interactive, the audience can ask direct questions to the guests through comments on the video stream.
The first edition took place on September 1st, with Dragos Motică as a guest – creative director of the home and décor brand Ashkia and designer at Dragoș Motica Studio. Dragoș Motica Studio is a multidisciplinary studio based in Bucharest. The studio’s work ranges from architecture, interior design, product design, and graphic design, combining experimental projects with series products. The studio was awarded in 2015 the Gold Medal by the A’ Design Award for the luminaire “/” and on other occasions by the Association of Furniture Manufacturers in Romania for various projects. The studio’s projects have appeared in various online and offline publications around the world.
On September 8, Sabina Hondru, co-founder of Printoteca, Sticker Republic, T-Shirt Van, and Stereohip, was invited. Sabina describes herself as a marketing specialist and creative entrepreneur, a mother of two, and a stray.
On September 15, there will be a discussion with Suzana Vasilescu – entrepreneur, gallerist, art historian, and art advisor- about the Suprainfinit Gallery, about Ans Azura, the first regional art platform dedicated to Eastern Europe and the Middle East, and international art fairs. Suzana has a constant cultural path: within the Artmark Auction House, she headed the Department of Postmodern and Contemporary Art for five years; she was the director of the first edition of the Art Encounters Art Biennial, and the director of Nicodim Gallery (Bucharest and Los Angeles) and is currently part of the board and the purchasing committee of the Museum of Recent Art, having as focus the Romanian art from 1965 until now.
Mihai Mitrică, the founder of the Anim’est festival (the only one in Romania on the selected list of festivals “authorized” by the American Film Academy) is the guest of the live broadcast on September 22. Mihai curates animated film programs for various international festivals, promotes Romanian film at film markets such as Annecy or Clermont Ferrand, and has been invited as a member of the jury to dozens of festivals, from Italy to Brazil and from Portugal to Estonia.
On September 29, at 9.00 p.m., Ioana Chira will talk about the projects of the GAEP Gallery. Ioana studied Journalism and Public Relations in Marketing. For 18 years she worked in the press: she started as a cultural reporter at Mediafax, she then wrote about the intersection between society and culture in publications such as Ziarul de Duminică and Business Magazin, and between 2011 and 2019 she was the coordinating editor of Harper’s BAZAAR Romania magazine, where she initiated and developed, together with the rest of the editorial team, Bazaar section Art. Since 2016 she has been producing content for cultural organizations and communicating contemporary art projects. This closeness to the art field has expanded since March 2020, when she became the Gallery Manager at Gaep.
On October 6, the guest will be Florina Dascăl, co-founder of fashion brand Vilegiatura, Lead Architect of Untold Universe group, Creative Director of Neversea Festival, and co-founder of Zain Festival – Festival of Creativity. The latter, ZAIN, was founded in 2015 in Cluj together with three good friends and colleagues, Georgiana Ciceo, Alexandra Mihali, and Răzvan Luca, and has become a meeting and dialogue place for the creative industries in Romania. In the autumn of this year, the festival is in its 5th edition.
Creative Night Talks takes place every Thursday evening between September 1st and October 6th on the Atelierul Magazine Facebook page and in crossposting on the pages of funders and partners: The Ministry of Culture, Radio Romania Cultural, the Urban Art Depot, the House of Arts – Timis County Directorate of Culture and others.
